Science tuition in Reading: Physics, Chemistry and Biology to A-level

Learn to Excel teaches Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Reading up to A-level. We cover the AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC Eduqas, IGCSE and IB exam boards. Teaching runs in small groups and one-to-one, in person at our Reading centre and online. Every tutor holds an enhanced DBS certificate.

Concept-first teaching for the sciences

Our approach builds understanding of a concept before repetition of it. The sciences reward understanding over memorising: a student who has only memorised a fact or a method can struggle the moment a question is phrased differently from the one they practised. Concept-first teaching aims to build a student who can reason from first principles, whether that is balancing an unfamiliar equation in Chemistry or applying a force law to a new scenario in Physics.

Every exam board, GCSE to A-level

GCSE science students in Reading sit AQA, OCR, Edexcel or WJEC Eduqas, depending on their school. We prepare students for all four boards, across Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We also teach the IGCSE and IB syllabuses used by some local schools. A-level students continue on the same board-specific footing through to their final exams.

Small groups and one-to-one, in person and online

Small group sessions suit a student who benefits from working alongside peers at a similar level. One-to-one sessions suit a student who needs the pace or focus adjusted specifically to them. Both formats run in person at our Reading centre and online for families who prefer to join remotely. Parents choose the format that fits their child and their week.

Who teaches A-level science

Our A-level maths and physics tutor attended Kendrick School and holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics from the University of Edinburgh. She teaches Physics up to A-level alongside maths. She holds an enhanced DBS certificate, in line with every tutor at the centre.

Maths and science together

Physics and Chemistry lean heavily on maths, from equation rearranging to graph work. A student taking both subjects with us keeps that link in view rather than treating the two as separate.

See our maths tuition page for how we teach the maths side.

Science tuition: common questions

What science subjects do you teach in Reading?
We teach Physics, Chemistry and Biology, up to A-level. A student can take one subject or all three, and stays with tutors who already know their exam board.
Which exam boards do you cover for science?
We cover AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC Eduqas, IGCSE and IB. Tell us your child's board when you enquire, and we match a tutor who teaches it.
Do you teach one-to-one or in small groups?
Both. Small group and one-to-one sessions run in person at our Reading centre and online.
What are your science tuition hours?
Sessions run Monday to Wednesday, 4pm to 8pm. Saturday sessions run 10am to 3pm. We close on Sunday, Thursday and Friday, on bank holidays and through summer.
Do you run mock exam days or booster courses?
No. We do not run mock exam days or booster courses. Sessions build understanding steadily through the year instead.
Can I pay for science tuition with Tax-Free Childcare?
Yes. We accept Tax-Free Childcare, and payment plans are available. See our fees page for how to set this up.
